Stencils

Versioned reusable template parts that authors insert as editable copies.

Stencils

Stencils are reusable template parts: a standard address block, signature section, legal paragraph, table layout, or branded footer. They help teams keep common document parts consistent without forcing every template to stay linked to a central component at render time.

Inserted as a copy

When an author inserts a stencil, the content is copied into the template. The inserted block can be edited, locked, detached, or upgraded depending on the stencil settings and the author’s intent.

This keeps published template versions reproducible. A later stencil release does not silently alter a document version that was already published.

Versions and upgrades

Stencils are versioned resources. Bulk upgrade operations only affect drafts, never immutable published versions. Authors can review changes before accepting them.

Nested stencils are not supported. Keep stencils focused and composable at the template level.

Catalogs

Stencils are catalog resources. A shared catalog can release stencils together with the fonts, assets, attributes, themes, and templates that depend on them.
